Anthropic has committed to a ten billion dollar agreement to secure advanced data center capacity from a recently launched cloud infrastructure provider. The six year contract focuses on a high capacity facility in Norway managed by Volta Infra Holdings, an artificial intelligence startup supported by Nvidia Corporation.
The European data center will deliver 133 megawatts of power and will be stocked with Nvidia’s newest Vera Rubin chips. Operation of the physical infrastructure will be carried out alongside Bitdeer Technologies Group, a Bitcoin mining company that has increasingly shifted its facilities toward artificial intelligence tasks as cryptocurrency valuations fluctuate.
Although Volta Chief Executive Officer Ricard Boada declined to name the client, people familiar with the matter confirmed that the deal was arranged with the maker of the Claude model. The move underscores Anthropic’s continuous drive to expand its underlying computational power in response to growing demand for automated coding and workplace AI applications.
To support this massive hardware expansion, Anthropic raised substantial funds earlier this year and has explored various compute leases with high profile technology enterprises. By establishing partnerships with emerging infrastructure providers and hardware specialists, the company aims to ensure reliable access to the computational resources required for its next generation AI models.
