As artificial intelligence transitions from human-guided tools to autonomous digital workers, enterprise security faces an unprecedented shift. Having secured backup data through previous eras focused on recovery and cyber-resilience, Veeam is extending its data trust model to encompass real-time production environments and autonomous AI agents.

These digital employees interact with massive volumes of structured and unstructured data at machine speed. While human access controls were once sufficient, traditional security models fail when thousands of AI agents operate simultaneously. Without dedicated agent trust infrastructure, rapid automated access creates immense security vulnerabilities, capable of causing widespread damage in mere seconds.

To address this gap, Veeam plans to introduce zero trust agent capabilities designed to provide granular context across data, identity, and AI. By embedding these guardrails directly into metadata, systems can enforce real-time, identity-based access controls. This Agent Identity Access Management approach actively identifies gaps and corrects misconfigurations before breaches occur.

Central to this initiative is a unified Data and AI Command Platform powered by graph technology. Built using capabilities from Veeam’s acquisition of Securiti, the platform constructs a comprehensive map of enterprise data estates to automate compliance, privacy, and risk governance. Because human oversight cannot scale to monitor thousands of autonomous routines, AI agents themselves will continually audit access consent and regulatory compliance.

Looking ahead, Veeam’s coming v13.1 Data Platform will integrate these safeguards alongside administrative assistance and threat response features. An included MCP server will allow organizations to query backup data and execute AI-driven security operations through their preferred chatbots.

Reflecting on this evolving landscape, Veeam CEO Anand Eswaran noted, “We’ve entered a new era for data. By bridging backup protection, cyber-resilience, and autonomous agent governance, Veeam aims to construct the foundational trust layer required for the agentic AI era.
